Ari Taymor founded alma in 2012 as a pop-up, which became an established restaurant that same year. His Southern California inspired cooking has garnered attention both domestically as well as internationally. In 2013, alma was named America’s best new restaurant by Bon Appétit magazine. In 2014 Taymor was named Food and Wine’s best new chef. He also received a James Beard nomination as rising star chef in both 2014 and 2015. Taymor’s food is influenced by his commitment to supporting the farmers and ranchers of Southern California.
ASHLEIGH PARSONS / founding partner
Ashleigh Parsons founded alma in 2012. She is the creative and operating partner. Her background brings a blend of expertise in education and restaurants and she draws upon these distinct lenses to act as the operating and creative partner of alma. She received a masters in education from Harvard University in 2012. She staged at La Chassagnette, a Michelin starred restaurant in southern France in 2010 and again in 2015, focusing on front of house service and gardening. Aligned with her dedication to educating youth around health and wellness, she founded Alma Community Outreach 501(c)(3) in 2012. Today the program is partnered with three charter schools in Los Angeles and administers a gardening and cooking curriculum to over 100 students each week.
